Obstetric & Gynaecology


Obstetrics and Gynaecology also known as O&G or Obs & Gynae are the two surgical specialties dealing with the disease and conditions related to female reproductive organs and conditions associated with pregnancy.

Biographical Sketch:

Dr. Lim obtained her MBBS in 1999 and Master in O&G in 2008. She has over 12 years of experience in delivering medical care to patients at several government hospitals.

Dr Lim earned her IJOG Prie Paper Award Honorable Mention (Best Clinical Research Article from a Low/Middle-income Country) in 2008. She was also awarded the ‘Sijil Perkhidmatan Cemerlang’ by Ministry Of Health in 2008 and 2011.

Aside from her vast experience in the Obstetric & Gynaecology discipline, Dr. Lim has also published her writings in international journals and conducted presentations at various meetings and conferences.

In the field of medical education, Dr Lim contributes to the development of the younger generation through her teaching posts in Penang Medical College and Royal College of Perak. She also mentors the elective medical students, house officers and registrars in the department at the government hospital. She was appointed as supervisor for the student of family physician by UKM and assumed the position as an invited lecturer in Penang Nursing College.

At KPJ Penang Specialist Hospital, she will provide consultation and related procedures on Obstetric & Gynaecology. Her clinic will be open from 8.30 am – 5.00 pm on Mondays to Fridays and 8.30 am – 12.30 pm on Saturdays.


Dr Munawwirah graduated with MD from University Science Malaysia (USM) in 2001. She completed her housemanship at University Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC) in 2002 before she being posted to District Hospital, Hospital Sik, Kedah for 2 year and continued another 2 years in hospital Kulim, Kedah in Surgical Department and Obstetrics and Gynaecology department.

In 2007 she joined Master Programme (O&G) at HUSM, Kubang Kerian, Kelantan. She has been trained for 2 years as  master student in Hospital Sultanah Bahiyah, Alor Setar, Kedah and continued another 3 years in HUSM Kubang Kerian, Kelantan. She finished her training in 2012. During the training she had additional elective trainings in Radiology Department for 6 months.

She completed her gazettement as O&G specialist at Hospital Wanita & Kanak-Kanak,Sabah in 2012-2013, later she was posted to Hospital Kulim till 2015. She was actively involved in teaching medical student from AIMST University and Insaniah University College. She also was appointed as person in charge for Houseman and Medical officer in O&G Department and was a chair person for Baby-friendly Hospital Initiative (BFHI) Hospital Kulim in 2013.

After 2 years in Hospital Kulim, she joined Private Maternity Centre (Dewan Bersalin Muslimah), Permatang Pauh, Pulau Pinang on 2015 till to date. She ran the specialist clinic, conducted deliveries and performed most of the gynaecological operation.


Biographical Sketch:

Dr. Ramesh P. Mala Perumal is our Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist. Dr. Ramesh graduated from University of Malaya in 1991 and subsequently obtained his postgraduate degree (M.R.C.O.G) from the Royal College of Obstetrician and Gynaecologist, U.K, in 1997. He has more than 15 years experience in obstetrics and gynaecological as well as manages low/high risk obstetrics cases with a wide range of gynaecological conditions (i.e. Infertility, Menopause, Gynaecological oncology and Urogynaecological cases.
His areas of special interest are gynaecological key-hole surgery (minimal access surgery / laparoscopic surgery). He performs many types of hysteroscopic and laparoscopic surgeries such as hysteroscopic resection of endometrium / myoma and laparoscopic surgeries such as ovarian cystectomy, adhesiolysis, salpingectomy, myomectomy and laparoscopic hysterectomies.


Biographical Sketch:

Dr. Lee Huey Yang is our Visiting Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist. Dr Lee Huey Yang graduated with MBBS from University Malaya in 1988. He completed his housemanship at the University Hospital in 1989 before being posted to Triang PKB for a 1 year stint in Public Health. In 1990 he got his MRCOG Part 1 and returned to Kuala Lumpur to begin specialist training. During his 1 year general surgical training at the University Hospital, he presented paper at the Surgeons’ AGM and published in the Malaysian Medical Journal.

He trained at the busiest birthing center in Malaysia, the Maternity Hospital Kuala Lumpur where he held the post of Registrar in O&G from 1991-1993. He had additional elective trainings in obstetric anaesthesiology and urology at the Kuala Lumpur General Hospital from 1993-1994. He continued to be active in research and published 2 more papers in peer-reviewed journals.

In 1995 Dr Lee went to the United Kingdom for further training as the Registrar in O&G at the West Suffolk Hospital, London. He obtained both the Royal United Kingdom and Australasian Colleges of O&G membership in 1995 and 1996. He was also a member of the European Association of Gynaecologists and Obstetricians.

On his return, Dr Lee was posted to Kuantan General Hospital and despite the heavy workload; he was active in teaching and published another paper in the Singapore Medical Journal before going into private practice as Consultant O&G at Tanjung Medical Centre Penang. He was admitted as member to the Academy of Medicine, Malaysia and Fellow of the International College of Surgeons (O&G), USA in 1998.

From Tanjung Medical Centre, Dr Lee moved to Bukit Mertajam to assume the post of Director and Consultant O&G at Tan and Tan/Lee Specialist Maternity Centre till to date. He was elevated to Fellow of the Royal College of O&G in 2007.

Dr Lee continues to run his specialist clinic at the Tan and Tan/Lee Specialist Maternity Centre Bukit Mertajam, but will conduct his delivery and surgery at the KPJ Penang Specialist Hospital.
